Bought at approx $3500 but is worth double because of the contents that are in the device (Pirated or otherwise)
I carry it in a $95 Alienware Backpack. This isn't much of an issue because the large majority of thieves don't even know what Alienware is (although a laptop bag in general is easy to spot.)
I'm going to assign a boot password and have recently started looking into security locks (which apparently can be picked with a toiler roll tube...) as well as services such as Computrace.
However, most of these options seem unnecessary and futile because I won't be leaving my +$6000 Alienware unattended anyway, no matter what. The only reason I feel the need to have it protected is in case, on the 2 hour long subway commute to campus and back, I happen to run into a group of people and have my laptop stolen right off my back.
I'm not sure how to encrypt my hard drive but I don't have any real "valuable" information in it except my credit card info which I would change ASAP should my laptop get stolen. Mainly my Alienware is used for heavy gaming (duh lol) and just entertainment in general.
Right now I'm considering assigning a boot password... just for the hell of it. The security cable lock is a waste of money. Services like Computrace or that other one (forgot the name, works with local law enforcement to "retrieve" your device if stolen.. lol yeah right) seem like something I might invest in, even though the chances of recovering a stolen laptop is slim. I believe the price is like $40 for a year.
TL;DR - Worried $4k lappy is going to be stolen off my back, need protection for commute. No vital info on HDD.
