M4400 - What is the speed of my 1394 port? 400 or 800? Is the e-Sata port faster? Shopping for...

I'm shopping for a Seagate GoFlex interface and I'm wondering which would give me the fastest data tranfer rates to the drive.

I have a Precision M4400.

Best I can tell, I have USB 2.0 ports, a 1394 and an e-Sata but I don't know if the 1394 port is 400 or 800, nor do I have a clue as to how fast e-Sata is.

Would really appreciate if someone can tell me whether the 1394 port on the M4400 is 400 or 800.

If it's an 800, I'm also wondering if that is faster or slower than the e-Sata port.

Thanks so much!

Well it does not say 1394b so your port is a typical Firewire 400

cheers ...

I have found E-sata to be very very good. I have some Seagate USB 3 external drive and some other E-sata enclosures with various size and speed HDD inside. I find the transfer speeds of the E-sata to be very fast and very stable. In some cases I find the transfer rate even faster than transfer speeds on the internal bus from say a C to a D drive. I find USB 3 not as fast as the E-sata and its often flaky, starting very fast and then slowing down to USB 2 speeds. Time will tell if they can get USB 3 right, but for now I highly recomend E-sata as its cheap and very reliable.

Scrolling to page 24 shows that it is a 1394a port.

Even if it were the 800Mbps 1394b, the slowest eSATA is still 1.5Gbps.
