creating system recovery disks

i am trying to create system recovery disks for my dell. i tried dvds that were formatted, and that didn't work. cd's didn't work either... what is going on here??

sure:

I am using dvd's that were formatted (not the quick one...). so they have nothing on them. i then use dell data backup, that came with my computer, to create the discs.

i have a dell inspiron 15r

What do you mean they are "formatted" ? You shouldn't need to format a blank DVD before you use it.

Well, yeh. There can't be anything on the discs before you use the Dell backup software.

ok, because they previously had data on them, but as mentioned before, they were formatted (wiped totally clean)

Ah you're using DVD RWs

You probably should buy some DVD Rs

DVD RW are not recommended

yep - most if not all recovery disks must be "finalized" - some might luck out with the RW, mostly luck winknudge.gif
