I am having some issues with my Acer notebook. the touchpad died on me about 8 months ago, and then a few keys on the keyboard stopped working. During that time I tried uninstalling the touchpad drivers since I knew that's what they probably would ask me to do if I called customer service. The toucpad never reinstalled itself, so I figured it needed to be replaced.
I'm just getting around to calling it in for repairs (was using it for work, school and games and didn't have time to part with it); and the Indian tech guy walked me through everything that I did already for about 20 minutes only to tell me I'll have to try a system restore since the drivers aren't installing, I did explain I uninstalled the drivers because it wasn't working in the first place and I knew that would be the first thing they asked me to do.
First, is there an easy way to backup everything I have on the notebook? I have my games, some notes...just a whole bunch of stuff. The harddrive is 300gb and almost full.
Second, is there anyway to convince support to fix the touchpad and keyboard without doing a restore? The guy said even if I send it in for repair they will do the system restore first... Could I try calling back and playing along when they ask to uninstall the driver so it looks like it happened right then? I paid extra for the extended warranty and I'm a bit disappointed that it's a hassle to get it fixed now.
