acer Aspire 5520 start up problem!

Hi guys my name is bob and i'm new to your forms,,,,

i was wondering if i can get some help from you with my sons laptop(aspire5520)

last week it decided to pack up on him!,,,,

i had a chance to check it out and it seems to have some isues with he start up, as

when i press the start up key,, the pilot light come on green for about one second, and then the whole thing dies up!.

i have tested all the (ram-the cpu- and the Hdd) on another Acer,,, and they seam to be working OK.

i suspect the  power supply unit is dead Because when i removed the battery and tried to start up the unit no green lite came on at all,,,,, yet when i installed the battery back on i can only get that one second of green light from the unit with out having a chance to get to the bios screen!

the question is i'm i right with my suspicions about the psw or is the cause is entirely some thing else,,, and if so is there a remedy for this condition, or douse the MB needs to be fully replaced?

your response in this matter  will be greatly appreciated.

From what you described, I would definitively scrounge up a battery and an adapter just to test them out first

if you can take it apart look at the soldering on power connection. some times the solder comes loose.

thank you so much for the help answer,, i will get to it today and see if i can restore the power into the Mb.

The battery must be in regardless of the power supply.  That is to say that the pc won't work without a battery even when the power supply is plugged in.   Other forums on this topic say that some have had success by pulling the battery, removing power supply and holding start button for 45 seconds.  Has not worked for me.
