Catalyst driver causes whites to turn yellow in external display when EDID is enabled.

Hi,

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this matter.

I read the AMD released a new version of the catalyst drivers, but I found I can't use those but whatever Dell releases. So I downloaded and installed the drivers for the 6970 for my M17x R3. By default, it seems these new drivers come with the EDID option disabled. After installing, I enabled the option as it had been working normally with the prior version.

The problem is that now all whites turn to yellow if I enable the option.

I tried re-installing the drivers (after complete removal).

I tried switching from DisplayPort to DVI.

I tried using the 'Restore Defaults' option in both the monitor (U2311H) and the catalyst drivers.

I am guessing this is either a registry error or driver/reporting issue.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Is it possible the external display is the problem and not the drivers?

Just for my info - you were using the Catalyst from AMD direct and not from Dell support site?

I've tried both and the result is the same. If I enable EDID the color temperature goes wrong so only white colors turn yellow.

Some other symptoms are:

- Blue-ray/DVD movies are displayed correctly.

- Colors are normal if I switch to the Intel adapter.

I think it is something wrong with the driver instead of the monitor, because if I uninstall the catalyst driver/rollback to the the version the computer came with then colors are normall when EDID is on. It could be a registry setting that is corrupt, or something going wrong when I install the driver.

Unfortunately I don't have another monitor. But colors appear normal if I connect the PC to my TV.

I would definitely go back to the original driver first making sure that everything is fine, then start applying one new version at a time, with many restore points. GPU drivers are very touchy, as far as notebook environment concerns.

Try resetting the monitor profile to the standard sRGB profile.
