I have an asus 1005hab netbook which is behaving badly. When I try and start it, normally, it makes a little ticking sound, several times, the login comes up, then it tries to boot. It keeps on doing that for several minutes and, then, turns itself off. When I start it in safe mode, on the other hand, it boots right up (still makes the little ticking sounds).
I have removed the hard drive and tested it on my machine. I have run chkdsk /f two times. The first time the drive was a mess, files not right, etc. Also deleted something like 2000 junk files and got rid of a bunch of maleware (this is a daughter's machine).
My suspicion is that I would be wise to simply reformat and put a new operating system on this system but I thought I would get some input before I do that (otherwise I am going to have to backup about 30gb of stuff).
I would appreciate any thoughts or advise.
