Asus Pro31F Shutdown Problem

Hi there,

Okay I have an Asus Pro31F laptop running Vista (New install) And am having problems with the thing restarting itself on shutdown about 5 seconds after shutdown. Also when put to sleep it won't wake up unless you hit the power key and then brings up the Start windows normally prompt, like it is restarting and not in standby mode.

PSU appears okay and running correct voltage and not hot at all.

Have tested Ram with Memtest – 2 pass =ok
Tested New HDD WD 320 black = ok
Re-seated RAM and cleaned internally (Not that bad at all)
Temps of CPU via hw monitor both cores around 30 deg.

Have disabled various hardware items like CD drive-Network cards sound card etc.

Have installed clean install of Win XP previously and all updates and it has the same issue.

Tried a Linux Live CD to see and restarts as well.

One thing that makes me suspect of the PSU is that when the system is running without power (battery) it will shutdown and stay down.

Also if I buy another charger from Ebay does it have to be exactly the same amperage rating? Mine is 3.42 amp the one that is selling is 4.74 amps.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Amperage and wattage can vary as long as Voltage stays the same as OEM - for notebooks

Thanks for that .... going to a place on Monday that has a few chargers so will give one a try before buying if i can. Has anyone stripped one of these Pro31f's down to get the mobo out at all. Not sure I want to get into that anyway but its for an elderly lady that is on a pension so can't afford to buy another one just now.

Well no good with the charger, so looking like a motherboard issue. The lady is happy to take it back now and disconnect the power lead on shutdown to stop it starting up. Save for a new one is going to be the answer here I feel. Availability of parts is the other concern but thanks for the support.
