I bought an acer 4750 in Thailand and it has windows 7 on it (probably a dodgy copy) that does not always work. I have an xp home disc that I purchased in trhe uk. Can I install this over the windows 7 ( taking windows 7 off the laptop).?

I am also trying to get the original key for my disc off microsoft throughtheir contact center, do you think they will supply me this over the internet?

    Cheers for any info

You can put XP on any comps but it might not work correctly either if you can't find drivers for it. As far as key code, unless you have a key available it will be tough to extract that from Microsoft via Support, unless the copy has been registered with name, address etc from the beginning

why install xp, microsoft is dropping support for xp by 2014. win7 has a compatable mode that will run any xp software. by the sound of it you might have a bootleg version of win7. buy a full version of win7 and a external cd rom and boot up. then go to acer and emachines website for drivers.

by 2014 all support for xp will be dropped, you must have sp 3 installed to keep recieving security updates. vista will be totally dropped.

You should be able to pick everything up from either Windows 7 updates and Acer Support Site
