im new here, and just have to put my 2 cents worth in. acer computers are the worst there is. i bought this aspire 5515 in feb 2009
and had to have it repaired 3 times that first year. continued to have problems with it. support techs that arent much help cause they dont speak english nor understand english very well. thier only answer to resolve any problem was doing whats called a factory default restore, thats putting it back to the day you took it out of box and powered it on. im not computer saavy, but i was searching around the files and such, i found that three of acers software was acting like malware to windows and it was trying to remove them. acer answer to it was factory default restore. it got so bad that once a month i had to restore it. OMG 6 to 7 hours of updates, thats not including getting my anti-virus installed and a few other programs installed.
I resolved the problem by buy a full version of windows 7, repartition the hard drive and havent had a single problem since. just recently i asked support tech if the cd rom can be changed out and they said no changing anything will damage the computer. strange they said same thing when i installed win7, i changed the optiarc ad-7580s scsi out to a liteon ds-8a3s and now i can use cd rom to watch movies.
also back in june of 2009 acer sent message to owners of the aspire 5515, saying if we purchased this notebook after may 2009 they would do a free upgrade to win7 and if we purchased it before may 2009 we have the option to pay for the upgrade. if you had acer upgrade your aspire 5515, you didnt get it back, they sent you a emachine e620 instead. they are the same notebooks but the aspire 5515 has no drivers listed in support for win7, only xp and vista. plus acer emachine and gateway doesnt stay on top of updating drivers.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYBODY BUYING ANY ACER"S BRANDS.
