NP9285, Realtek speakers work but no headphones

I've had my 9285 for about a year now and everything usually works great. Recently I installed then uninstalled Connectify (Turns my laptop into a WiFi hotspot). Now my headphones don't work. I've tried 2 sets with the same result. The speakers work fine. I've uninstalled then re-installed the Realtek drivers/app. When I plug them in, I get a notification that I have plugged something in to the headphone jack. And that I've unplugged something when I unplug them. If I have the Audio Manager open when I plug them in I see that the "Headphone Virtualization" checkbox becomes active. So it's recognizing that there are headphones plugged in.

Why would the speakers work and the headphones don't?

Install Connectify again but disabling from start-up and see what happens

IT WORKS!!!! But How?

The reason I uninstalled it was that it caused my Logitech Unifying receiver to stop working. Do you have any tips there too?

My theory is that this app took over some of the registry entries and tweaked (channeled) your sound signals. Search their site for a good uninstall instruction, or just re-install OS clean ;D

I installed the connectify app, but didn't turn it on. I disabled it in configuration, then deleted the entry in the "Run" registry entry. The next restart threw an error saying that the service wasn't running. So the app was trying to start at run time but couldn't find the service. Hence the registry entry deletion. The next restart went fine. The Logitech receiver seems to be working properly.

I guess my question is... Why would things NOT work after uninstall? I hate to have a useless piece of software installed just to avoid breaking other things after it's uninstalled.

Many lousy apps leave traces on the system that would cause harm to system performance (or sometimes not) - you might want to download ReVo-Unistaller and give that a shot

Back up your personal data first. Is there a chance for a 2nd hard drive for a complete re-installation? wink.gif
