Acer Aspire 4750Z Hangs on Shutdown!

I just recently bought a Acer Aspire 4750Z laptop (which surprising, isn't provided in the drop down list at the Acer website - only Acer Aspire 4750 without the 'Z' is provided!). It was Free DOS so I checked the Acer website to find that it only provides Windows 7 64bit drivers for this laptop. Accordingly, I got myself a Windows 7 64bit disc and installed it. However, during installation I find that the computer hangs every time it has to restart! As such, one has to manually switch it off and restart. Somehow, I managed to get the OS installed and running, but, the same problem - when I try to shut down or restart, it hangs! Help! I don't know what to do here! ohmy.gif

As it had FreeDOS before, have you checked BIOS settings for correct hard drive recognition - namely AHCI?

Thanks for the reply... well, I checked the BIOS settings - the SATA Controller or watsit is indeed set to AHCI. The other option I understand is IDE, although that doesn't work and as far as I know it should be AHCI, right? Well, that's what it says right now, but even after re-installing windows, it still hangs on shutdown/restart! :-(

AHCI is a good start.

My next recommendation is to bring the comp back for exchange - hanging means to me that either bad ram or bad drive is in the work

Thanks... might have to get it to the service centre from the looks of it :-(

It could be some simple thing, but it is best whilst it is still under warranty
