Sony Vaio Volume Control Centre works but doesn't display volume controls?

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone can help.

On Sony Vios they have a control panel at the top of the keyboard (normally) which is shortcuts to volume, music, video controls. For some reason I am able to lower and increase volume but it won't display the volume bar on the screen when I decrease and increase it?

The only think I have changed recently is the msconfig Service Settings where I've disable a few Sony Services which were slowing my computer down at start up. I can't see what I turned off there that effects the volume bar not showing up on screen? Or if anything I did there is linked to the problem.

Any ideas?

You got a restore point to go back to? Go back and re-enable the services that you disabled?

How old is the notebook? I normally leave the system pretty much alone, disabling only start-up processes for the 1st few weeks to leave Windows adjusting to your working environment

I don't have a restore point. The laptop is a 3 years old.

Can unenabling services stop something like that? Or would it be another setting?

You can't change the properties of the service to "automatic", then restart?

Control panel, administration, services - go to whatever services that you disabled, open up the properties, change to "autostart"

Can't find anything on that disable list that is related to the problem?

Well, my suggestion was that you turned back / activate all Vaio related services, making sure that you get what you want, then going back disabling one at a time
