CQ56-219wm Cpu Upgrade Options?

Thread Starter

I'm wondering if anyone knows the range of processors that can be used on this notebook. Presently it has a 2.2ghz Celeron 900 in it, but it also has an F.14 bios, which specifically supports Core 2 processors. The FSB is 800mhz. The bios's last update was mid 2008.

My trouble is, HP lists nothing useful on their website that I can see. If it weren't for CPU-Z, I would have no idea about a single chip on this board.

I can't find anything about its Hewlett Packard 1605 motherboard. With a 6040 chipset.

It has an 82801 southbridge, which makes me think it can take any 35w core 2 duo, but I'm basically transposing my desktop knowledge onto a laptop.

I've never upgraded a laptop before, and know nothing of them.

I'm also curious if it could take older core duo chips? Since none of those go over 667FSB, I'm thinking it probably can't.

If it can, I'll have an easier hunt on EBay. It's a PGA478 Socket P thankfully, so it shouldn't be too hard to find a compatible chip.

I'm sticking this thread in my speed dial on Opera, so I will read and reply to any posts. Thanks :)

I read that a T6600 was even successful with this model - but don't quote me on this - with HP, moving from one CPU family to another is always hit-n-miss, you must check out the board serial number as well

Well, it should only be $30 or so for a chip. It's not a huge deal, but I wanted a little verification and I got it :)

I felt pretty confident that it would take another chip, and if it can take a Penryn, it will probably take most if not all Merom.

Just one extra question. What would I do with the board serial number?

Just have the board serial / part number handy should you ever run into trouble with the CPU upgrade winknudge.gif

I could not find anything on the net where someone had success with a T7200 on this model. You might be the pioneer winknudge.gif
