Asus has several different lines to choose from.
1. Which line is best for business and reliability? This is replacing a Dell Latitude D600 that's been going for almost 8 years.
2. Would it be unreasonable for me to want the cheapest i5 laptop possible and then want to put in 8GB of DDR3 1600 RAM and a 100-200GB SSD myself?
My optimal system would be:
15.6" 1680x1050 Screen
Core i5-2410M
4GB RAM or less
500GB HDD or less
Mostly Aluminium Body
I figure I'ld just use the system recovery discs to install Windows 7 on the new SSD. 8GB of RAM is only $80 or less which is usually less than the cost of upgrading of upgrading to 8GB. Manufs are charging $300-500 for an SSD which is absurd when I can get a good SSD much less. My other main consideration for a laptop has been a Toshiba or Dell XPS. Price is important, the cheaper the better and under $1000 is pretty much required unless there's a really good reason to spend more.
