Here comes the choice....

I've got my pick for a laptop for college narrowed down to two options...

Hypersonic Aviator CX6
1.6 ghz
512 mb 1 dimm
60 gb 7200
Radeon 9600 Pro 128
XP Pro
$1964

or

Sager 5690
3.0 ghz
1 gb dual channel
60 gb 7200
Radeon 9700 pro 128
XP Pro
$1984.00

Any feedback on my choices?

A few questions to throw out there...
With the 5690, if I didn't choose anything to fill the media 2 bay what would be in it's place? Is the UXGA screen also a worthy upgrade?
Do you think the 9700 in the Hypersonic is worth the two-hundred dollar upgrade?

I know that it all comes down to what I want. I'm gonna be a freshman in college, it'd be great to take my thin and light laptop to the local starbucks and frag some boys in counterstrike while I'm there, and it would also be great to sit in my room and annihilate in Farcry on the drp. Any advice or picks in your own personal situations are helpful! Thanks everyone!

I am also thinking about buying the CX6 from Hypersonic, mostly because I have read they have great customer service and quality control. But I am starting to get a little concerned that no one has received a CX6 yet. They have been out long enough for SOMEONE to have gotten one by now. I have seen from this site and others that people have ordered them, but none so far has said they have received it yet. AS far as the 9700, I would say yes it’s worth it if you can afford it. If not, its being debated that is isn’t a great jump from the 9600.

i have ordered a CX6, and will post a review as soon as i get it. They have had no delays in shipping my notebook, and are still well within the time they said when i ordered it. Actually i should get it earlier then they first expected. I ordered 4/24 and the expected shipping date is 5/17. so to me thats good turn around. Ill keep you all updated if i encounter any delays or anything

Three to four weeks isn't bad, but there has to be others who ordered when they first came out, and that was longer then three to four weeks ago.

Both fine choices. It looks to me you have two different types of machines there.

The 5690 has the raw horsepower while the CX6 offers more battery for less power. It's really a matter of how often you seen yourself "needing" the battery life. I know for myself, I use my laptop exclusively away from my desk so 1-2 hours of battery life won't do and the CX6 would be my choice. Regardless, its a decision only you can make.

if you're looking to save a few bucks, check with the college you're going to, many times they offer XP Pro for 5 or 6 bucks

the sager has a second battery that you can get in the front bay that'll bump it up to near 4 or 5 hours, or so i hear. that makes it really nice for a full-powered desktop replacement because you can actually take away from the desk for a little bit.

just keep in mind a 5690 with two batteries will weigh in th 10-15 lbs ballpark.

Does anyone know if Purdue offers the xp for cheap...and is it the upgrade or the whole version?

My only concern on the CX6 is the screen. The native resolution seems awfully low.

I don't know what Purdue can offer, but upgrade or full is the same cd. Either will work just fine.

I have read a few reviews on the Voodoo M:370, which is pretty much a CX6. They say the screen is great for gaming, DVD, and other common usage. I am sure if you are doing something like digital editing it might be a problem.

Purdue offers windows xp for $5, as well as various other programs, such as office xp and etc. Most for only $5, but some cost a little more.

Do NOT go with Hypersonic....I ordered a CX6 the second week in March and ended up cancelling my order the first week in MAY b/c they said that they still couldn't give me "any idea" of when my system would ship. This is unacceptable....they make me want to vomit.

I've never dealt with a larger group of more incompetant morons in my entire life (and I worked in the construction business for 6 years).
