Help my screen went black and I can't get it to work?

I have a Gateway Notebook that is 4 years old and is running Vista Basic and I was working on it a little while ago and all of a sudden the screen went black. The computer was still on but the screen is black. So, I turned off the computer and then restarted it. It came on for a second and blinked the name and then went black again. I unplugged it and then tried again but nothing. cry.gif The strange thing is that my roomates computer which is a 5 years old Toshiba laptop running XP did the same thing a couple of days ago and we still cannot get that one to work either. It is too much of a coincidence that they both went black within a couple of days of each other. confused.gif

If anyone out there has any idea what might be going on here,  Please Help!

See if you can get some display with an external monitor - if so then hopefully it is just your screen inverter (cheap and easy to fix)

But this has happened to 2 separate computers, how could the screens on 2 separate computers go bad at the same time? They are not networked together either but they are on the same network in the house..

Can't tell ya why 2 screens going bad at the same time. Can only suggest what to do when a screen goes black winknudge.gif
