Hello all,
Please do forgive me if this is posted somewhere already and I missed it. I've spent several hours now both scrolling through pages of posts in the various parts of the forums AND using the search feature for various strings as well, to no avail.
I have several laptop/netbook systems (two referenced in my sig. plus an HP Mini 210-1080NR). I love my full size laptops to death and have lavished many upgrades on them. The netbook is not my first choice in any given situation (Windows 7 in any flavor + Atom N450 = Painfully slow typically) but I keep it around as a fallback and testbed for some OS things.
My chief complaint about all of them anymore is simply that their screen resolutions are too low. The DV9700 peaks at 1440x900, the C500 at 1280x800, and the netbook at a painfully low 1024x600 (it was made before 1366x768 became an option).
So to the meat: Has anyone out there had any experience and luck swapping an LCD out for a higher resolution one just for the thrill of it?
I replaced the LCD in the netbook once already due to a defective one not covered under the normal warranty. The procedure wasn't that difficult or complicated overall. However, I replaced it with a part-for-part replacement, identical specs. I see ALL KINDS of warnings on parts sites that you MUST replace a screen with an identically specced part. How true is this? Has anyone had luck upgrading their built-in LCD to a higher resolution?
I realize that some of the warning is in regards to CCFL quantity, voltages, and what not, and that there ARE differences between some models. However, surely there is some leeway to this. Otherwise, how would laptops with otherwise identical specs be sold with multiple resolutions of screens attached?
Please post any thoughts or experiences you've had. I'm open to opinions and ideas as well as any experiences that are out there.
Thank you in advance!
Regards,
O Shadow Fox O
