diy kit questions

i have been looking at building my own computer on newegg and tigerdirect. I have some questions:

1) Would it be cheaper to buy the parts seperatley, instead of the whole kit?
2) A majority of the kits come with a Seagate drive. i heard that these aren't the best. do you think it would be OK, or would you recommend something else?

This would be my first time building a computer (and my first desktop). i am also not familiar with AMD processors since I have always used Intel, so I thought I would give amd a shot. i am looking for a cheap one (tight budget since I got to college, and would like to purchase a tablet soon!) any good ones you recommend?

here were some I was looking at:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1148954&CatId=5294

I understand that the phenom is most likely the best route to go.

I currently have an intel I5 (quad core) Laptop (dell) with 6 gb of ram. i would use the desktop for multitasking, uploading/downloading, facebook/email, and music, and website design and some graphics editing. i understand that this isn't the best of all scenarios, but it gets experience on my hands at least, and i can mess around with networking. at worst case, i could do one thing at a time if i really have to... tongue.gif

thanks in advance.

out of them all, i liked this one the best for the following reasons:

1. x3 processor (triple core)
2. large hard drive
3. enough memory for basic/essential tasks

although i don't care for the chasis (i guess beggers can't be choosers...)

Have you considered searching for a gaming notebook that can do all that you want without fail? There are lots of them that offer truly high end machines with i5 or i7 processors that anybody can afford right now, not to mention slick designs if you want that too. Browse this place first www.cyberpowerpc.com and compare how much time, money and effort you have to spend before enjoying what others are now experiencing after just a little diligent searching with less waiting and a lot less hard work. smile.gif
