Fingerprint security on my new Sager

knockonwood.gif Hello Everybody!  Just joined Notebook-forum today and I'm excited to do this.  Never had much of a need or time for a forum, until my husband just bought me a Sager NP5160.  I LOVE this computer.  Although it's supposedly a "gaming" type computer, I'm a professional photographer and speed and matte screen is a plus for me.  My husband's a big gamer and bought his first Sager and has been sold on this brand ever since.

I'm having a problem, if anybody can help me.  I would really appreciate your input or thoughts.

Problem:  I want to use the Fingerprint Security feature that it came with.  I can't get it to work.  I installed the software, etc.  Started the setup and chose the finger digit I wanted to use.  Even watched the short video to make sure I was scanning my digit appropriately because I couldn't get it to work.  When it says to keep scanning your finger until the bar reaches 100%, well, after five minutes of scanning my finger, I don't even make the bar! Seriously, nothing.  Then it says it failed or whatever that failure thing is they say to losers like me who can't seem to make something that's supposed to be ez, well, not work at all.  So anybody that can guide me here?

Second question:  I am excited to use this finger scanner thingy because of the abilities of logging into your email accounts, web sites, etc., with just your finger scroll on the bar.  That's why I want to use it, for convenience.  I really have no reason that I can think of to use it for "security" or worrying about somebody getting on my computer,  We all have our own, but I like the things you can do with it.  Any thoughts or feedback?

Thanks in advance, Missy

Welcome to the forums.

I know you said you watched the video on how to do it, but make sure you start swiping from the middle of your index finger. The scanner needs to learn the bottom and top of the ENTIRE finger and if you start swiping at the top portion of your finger, it might not scan the entire print.

Personally i find these Biometrics security features annoying. I used the facial recognition on one of my Alienware computers for a while and it still wasn't as fast as typing in a password. I'd rather have a password...
