Need partition help.

Thread Starter
I have a 320gb hard drive windows xp. I had two partitions on it. One was for the operating system the other for my files. The operating system crashed. I reinstalled a fresh copy of windows. Now, How can I get my partition back. When I went in to disk management it said the rest of the drive was unallocated. So I created a new partition but choose not to format (feared losing my data). Now when I try to open the created disk it says I need to format it. How can I create a disk with the rest of the drive and keep my data. Thank you.

You might need to use a 3rd party partition app (some free out there) and format the one you need first, keeping the other data partition intact - then try again with the installation

cheers ...

There are a number of quality shareware/freeware partition tools out there.

Look into, for example, Minitool Partition Wizard Home Edition.
It has a "partition recovery" feature right up your alley.
