Sony VAIO VGN-CR320E, can I utilize its chassis and put in a new notebook?

I have a Sony VAIO VGN-CR320E notebook, more specifically the VGN-CR320E/L (Blue). I love its chassis, but I would like a better computer, that thing is conroe 2.0 with 2gb only and hdd.

I want to dissasemble my notebook and remove the internals, replacing them with the ones from another more advanced notebook. I believe that Sony must have kept the same assemble line for some type of notebook, so maybe there is a sony vaio out there with the same holes/screws and perhaps this crazy idea may work. The VGN-CR320E is insanelly well ventiladed at the bottom, so I hope the new sandy bridges will eve run cooler.

BTW, I would keeep the keyboard

A good tinkering project. winknudge.gif

You can always try, but keep in mind issues like battery performance and connectors. 1st thing is to look at the part number of the main board, then go chasing posssible fitting boards from there.

cheers ...

Im completly new to this. Altough I built my Windows PC and I upgraded my MacMini memory/hard drive, I never messed with notebooks. I did replaced the HDD once, but that was it, those things are easy.

I am totally unware of how notebooks are conected on the inside. Is there something I should look for, like the keyboard conector, is it a standart? Where is that motheboard part number you mentioned? And when I find it, what do I do with it?

I tought perhaps somebady was already familiar with compatibility with the VGN-Cr series, wich in my point of view, is the best chassis ever by any manufacturer

Users, like myself, love to be able to use the same chassis and just swapping out the boards, not a simple task sad.gif

Notebook boards are just like desktop boards with connectors to devices - except for the simple and important things of BIOS and chipset drivers that requires specific hardware devices to be connected to it. And there is NO standard.

Part number - there are different revisions allowing connections to better devices. So you can use it to find a compatible board for the the chassis

cheers ...
