Acer Aspire 5810tg WLAN trouble

Hi everybody,

I just upgraded my Acer Aspire 5810tg from Windows Vista to Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit (which made it run at least twice as fast) but I am still encountering the same problem that has been bugging me for as long as I can remember, I even think it has gotten worse:

The wireless network connection seems to cut off every minute (on Vista it wasn't that often), but Windows isn't notifying me, it is just skype cutting off in mid-conversation and the browser telling me it has no connection. Also, the bandwidth is only a third of the bandwidth I get with the other Notebooks connected to the router. At first I thought it might be an issue with the driver, since Windows grabbed it on it's own, but i downloaded the official driver from the Acer-website and installed that, but still I had the same issues. The only thing that seems to have gotten better by that, is that the bandwidth is up from 5 Mbit/s to about 12 Mbit/s, still the other laptops reach 16 Mbit/s downstream.

I hope the information I gave in this text can help identifying the problem and I thank you in advance for trying to find a solution.

Verify router configuration? Router firmware up to date? Its security setup? Turn off power saving from the wireless device?

The other laptops have no problems whatsoever and I also checked if the router has some kind of restriction set but I couldn't find anything. It uses a standard WPA2-PSK and no additional security. I will check if i can find power savings on the notebook and will report back.

I don't have any third party wifi software installed and can't find power saving settings on Windows 7.

Click on the wireless icon - go into properties of the card, there you will see the option of power management, un-check the option of "allowing system to turn off this device for saving battery or something like that"

Verify again that your wireless can handle WPA2-PSK, and if it is AES or T**

It seems that disabling the power saving has done the trick, thanks for that! The encryption is AES which is set on all devices connected to the router. If the problem continues I will reply to this thread again, if it doesn't, thank you and have a nice day!
