Hi Guys,

I have got the above laptop from a friend. The laptop was supplied with Vista loaded. My friend then tried to load XP home. The laptop now seems to have lost all the drivers and will only work when connected to an external monitor. It will only boot in safe mode up to the welcome screen . You then try to move the cursor and it wont let you even with an external mouse! Do i format the disk and start again?

Any Ideas??

Thanks

Alex

Definitively, I would perform a retry of the installation first

Hi,

Since my last post i have formatted the hard drive. When i attempt to reload XP i get a message that says " NTLDR file is missing press ctrl alt delete to restart".

Any Ideas?

You would need SATA driver slip-streaming onto the XP installation disk, or turning of AHCI support in BIOS, or staying with Vista

Would anyone be able to explain how to do this fix?

USB Floppy drive, and storing the SATA driver on it. How about just going with Windows 7? winknudge.gif

I have a windows 7 disk and have tried to boot from disk. It seems the DVD drive is not working or talking to the Laptop. The hard drive is now totally blank !

How do i make the disk boot? I have set it up in the bios to boot 1st?

Any Ideas??

Try again with a Linux boot disk - if this fails, and you already set the optical drive to be 1st boot, then your optical drive is toasted. You can try removing the optical drive and re-seating it, and hopefully it can be revived.

2nd - if you set the boot from HDD first, with the current bnalk har drive - what is the error code / message?

Every OS has its good and not-so-good side, none is better than the others winknudge.gif
