Dell Precision M4500 msata problems

Thread Starter

Hi!

I have problems updating my M4500 with a msata ssd. I already had a corestore mv and thought it was just incompatible with my notebook. Now i bought a Runcore Pro V. In the shop the ssd was listed as compatible.

I have tried everything I could to get it working but my BIOS just won't detect it.

I know the ssd works because an adapter to normal sata was included.

Is there a known way to get it working?

Would have to prep the SSD first before installing it?

well how do i do that?

my BIOS does not even list it... just when it's plugged into the adaptor.

thanks in advance

Search the forum for it. Or Djembe can give you some pointer. Under Windows 7 all you have to do is plugging it in and go. Not sure about other OS, something to do with using SSD manufacturer firmware for prep.

I'm sorry, I thought it would have been helpful for the readers.

Moreover, I read the Notebookforums Rules and I didn't notice anything that prohibits linking external sites.

Is there another rules page I should read befor posting?

Thank you for your help

There is no issue with linking to outside sources, as long as it stays within OP / thread context. In your case, there is only a statement, already in your post about the incompatibility of the drive and Dell within your blog - the rest is very much about other stuffs. Hope this helps.

It helps, thank you.

What you call "other stuffs" is about manufacturer's and vendor's support behaviour. I understand that you may not be interested and accept your decision happily.

Cheers

It is also fine about posting your experience and observation about this Runcore Pro, within this thread and OP context. Matter of fact it would be great if you would cut and paste that specific part to Runcore Pro from your blog and post it here. It would be of informative and cool input for all members here.

After reading this review, I decided to buy the 120 GB drive (RCP-V-T501B-MC) for my Dell precision M4600. I could find one only at MyDigitalDiscount.

The drive doesn't work on Dell precision laptops.

I contacted the vendor to return the item and I requested a refund.

I also contacted RunCore to see if the issue can be solved (I highly doubt it).

MyDigitalDiscont customer service contacted me on 2011-10-19 and looks like I can be refunded. On the compatibility issue, they say that they received the list from RunCore, which I can believe, since it’s displayed on RunCore’s site.

MyDigitalDiscount will refund the returned item’s cost completely and will also pay for the shipping of a new product in substitution. I will have to pay the shipping costs for the return and I will also pay the customs expenses for the old and new order.
I must say that I’m very pleased with their behaviour and, honestly, I can’t blame them for the compatibility issue.

On 2011-10-21 I contacted RunCore directly and they say that they will perform some compatibility tests shortly. I’m waiting for these tests to complete before arranging the return with MyDigitalDiscont: maybe there’s a way to make the drive work.

RunCore support contacted me on 2011-11-02 and put an end to my expectations. The drive is NOT compatible with Dell Precision laptops and needs an hardware modification. Meanwhile, their product detail page still claims this drive’s compatibility with Dell laptops.
