So this mystery game might be a Command & Conquer game?

Made by Bioware? I stopped playing after C&C3. As far as I'm concerned, the 4th one ruined it and Red Alert 3 didnt feel enough like a Red Alert game.

Kinda of funny - a Generals game, but with what looks like Orcas.

Interesting they're using the Frostbite 2 engine - I don't know if that'll bring that much to the game. Unit count is more important than tree and particle counts when it comes to RTS games.

We'll see by the beta - if they get this right, maybe they can get a good engine going for a *real* Tiberium or Red Alert universe C&C game.

I think by using the Frostbite engine that means you'll be able to get to street level detail like in Supreme Commander

Sure, but if this is supposed to be a RTS, and not a real-time tactical game, then street level zoom probably isn't going to be of much use outside of screenshots and engine-based videos.

And having a massive amount of explosions and whatnot will make it harder to visually identify units in a tight battle.

So I'm just worried that they're going for visuals rather than what is important in a RTS.

When I was told "new Bioware franchise" I never expected them to have C&C Generals thrown at them. I dont have much faith in this title. Bioware doesnt have experience in RTS games. Plus EA is usually too focused with bringing over the top visuals.

I don't think it is really a real Bioware company - more of a label for anything that EA considers outside of its other divisions, like EA Sports, DICE, etc.

As a C&C fan, I'm going to withhold complete judgment until something playable comes out. I think it's only fair.

Publisher Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: EA) surprised many today with the announcement that BioWare Victory’s Command & Conquer: Generals 2 will be a free-to-play game when it releases in 2013. Moreover, EA is transforming the entire Command & Conquer franchise into a multi-title, Free-to-Play destination.

The sequel to the popular Real-Time-Strategy (RTS) title was unveiled late in 2011, with the newly formed BioWare Victory studio at the helm. At the time, it was expected to be a full retail release. The game has since been renamed simply Command & Conquer, and looks to serve as a reboot for the franchise, and the first of several new C&C releases which will include Red Alert and Tiberium.
