hcontrol.exe issues on a U56

Thread Starter

I have had this laptop for about 4 months now.  Good machine, except that it has a lot of proprietary ASUS apps on it that overrun the standard Windows 7 version (like powersaving profiles).  Most of them are fine, but their is a program called hcontrol.exe that maps the function keys to volume, brightness etc. that always uses 25% of the CPU.  Seems to be designed to stay at 25%.  If it stop it, the fan shuts off, and it runs cooler.  Anyone else have the same issue?  Is it possible to replace this with some other software that controls the hotkey functions?  I'd like to get rid of all of the ASUS software since it's all a little buggy, but don't want to lose any functionality.  Anyone done this?

Don't try to get rid off any of the manufacturers apps, just disable their start-up processes (using cCleaner) and / or services. This way you always have something to fall back to.

On my G51 hcontrol uses about 3000 kt and 0% processor, runs about halfways on the processor list.
