That's not my desk. We were on location in a motel in Malibu. The dresser was the only surface available for me to set up on. If I'd had my previous setup (Shuttle XPC and 19" LCD) I wouldn't have had enough room to work.

That's why I needed a notebook with desktop power, because very often I find myself with limited space in which to work. Seriously, after the stylist, hairdresser, make-up people and photographer take over the place, I usually have about as much room as you see in the pictures for my gear.

yeah i can tell by the last pic.
you look like you dont have enough room to even sit

oh btw
do you think you can help me with purchasing problems?
i can't decide between a sony t1/t11 or a canon powershot s500
those are my top 2 right now
Dirt, it might help if you also indicated what you intend to use it for.

everything
I'm honestly looking for a great camera for regular use. I understand that 5 megapixels and up are only good if you are creating large prints. But after going to the Philippine islands last month, i just wanted to take scenic pictures to place on my desktop. White sands, blue water......would look nice on this 8790.
oh and anything ultracompact/compact

Go to the camera store and put your hands on them. Navigate the menus. Take pictures in the store and make them print them out for you so you can compare the quality. IMHO, Canon makes superior digital cameras. Sony makes great televisions.

The major purchasing reason for the t1 is its size. I've played with both pretty extensively, and I'd say that the s500 is probably a better choice if you can manage to get a slightly larger camera. But if you want the thin, portable one, the t1 is unbeatable.

thanks for the input
ill go to the store today

just got back
heres my converstation with the guy from best buy
Me: can i see this camera's (canon s500) print outs
guy: sure here are some pictures of different cameras in different formats
this is when he shows me a binder with pictures created from different cameras
Me: thats great but can i see the photo quality from this camera (pointing to the canon s500)
Guy:sorry we dont have a printer setup
Mek, so then can i see the sony t1
Guy: sure
he then takes it out of the case and i attemp to turn it on
Me: i think the battery is dead
Guy:let me find the cable to plug it in (comes back later) Sorry we dont have the cable
ME:OK, later

I'll go to samys cameras (unsure of name) in L.A. since i dont have much of a choice. I dont want to go through that again

Go to Circuit City. I can tell you that if you ask for a printout, an associate will give you one. (It's required of us). Both the s500 and t1 should be set up correctly with a working printer nearby.

Yeah. I mean anyone who is interested in actually selling a camera is going to let you do whatever you want with it, within reason, to determine whether it's right for you. A camera is not something you buy based solely on a spec sheet or sample images you see on the web, especially a digital camera. You have to be comfortable with its interface and workflow.

Nice.. 10D, How do you like it? Everybody I know and deal with shoots and swears by Nikon. But, having a handfull of EOS Lenses, from my 35mm set up, I would rather not have to start over with all new stuff...

I've been looking at a Canon / Kodak DCS 560 (6 megapixel)
I sold my Sony DSC-F717 (5 Mega Pixel) and right now stuck with my old Canon Digital Elph S100 (2.1 Megapixel) Until I either win the lottery and or find a great deal on an SLR body.

I have a Nikon 5700 (5.0 megapixels), however, it's a little too compact...the buttons on the side are very annoying, esp. because they are often bumped and all the settings for the camera are changed w/o you knowing it. I have my pics at "FINE" however, when the camera is bumped in the right way, the "FINE" switches to "GOOD" or something like that, but at any rate, the "GOOD" setting takes HORRIBLE pictures, so I'd end up taking several pictures and then get home to my computer and find out the camera got bumped. I'm purchasing a 6.0 megapixel cannon camera body, which is basically a regular digital camera, however, I can attach my own lenses to it. Hopefully, it'll be worth it.

just my .02.

I work at Samy's on Fairfax, in the rental department. If you go there ready to buy, talk to Tim in Consumer Digital and tell him I sent you. He will hook you up.
