Sony Vaio PCG-394L.  powers up, bios posts, but constant beeping.  if overheat, how to fix ?  F2 can't enter bios.  hard drive/ mem OK.

is there some way to undervolt it ?  after bios posts, father reports it fails to boot with hard drive in place.  also needs another hard drive.

is there a different key to enter bios ?

I would like to repair this myself i just have to have instructions as to what to do.

thank you.

Sounded like the motherboard is failing. Take a look at the sticky in the section for some dis-assembly guides and tips, then search the forum for "bake / baking". Give that a shot first

You can also try using another power supply and battery - see if it helps

I have completely disassembled the motherboard.  i do not have a VGN-FZ240E motherboard complete disasembly guide so if someone should have one this url is where i am at.  also any suggestions other than different power supply or battery are welcome.  i assume the laptop would turn on without a battery if it were plugged in, though i was dumb enough not to test that.  given that everything is taken apart, what should i offer someone on craigslist to fix it up, baked, power supply, or (can't be battery) reassembly.  if someone could give me a link to a manual for this specific motherboard repair it would greatly assist whoever is going to fix it up for me, the problem is, i can't pay alot of money to have it done.  so i need ideas and help.  thank you very much.

I have also searched the entire Sony Vaio forum and cannot find any references on how to bake the motherboard.  i'm curious what % of these baked motherboards turn out good ?  380 degrees for 8 minutes ?  aluminum paper or pizza with aluminum paper lining ?

thanks...

Hot dog, one of many cleanest taking-apart that I saw headbang.gif

All the baking and bake tips are in the Dell Section. And the percentage of success currently stands at 99.999%. I see that you still have the CMOS battery connected, make sure that it is off the board before cooking

And as long as you only have less than 4 screws that you don't know where they are supposed to be when putting the whole thing back, you are a pro laugh4.gif

Good luck with the baking.
