Satellite Pro A300 Screen Problems

When the laptop is booted, after between 30 seconds and 2 mins the screen freezes and looks like this:

Does anyone know what could be the problem? Note that the hourglass is up and the mouse pointer cannot be moved (frozen).

Hook up an external monitor and see if the same issue occurs. Try also in Safe Mode. If both of these fail -> your graphic card is on the way out

I tried that - a blue screen came up this time on both the laptop and the external monitor (my lcd TV). Does this give you any more information? Thanks by the way...

Let's try swapping out the ram modules, using one at a time if you have 2. Check for other devices (wireless card, hard drive ..) for being loose

How long has this beeen going on..any new hardware/software added just before this started...if after trying qhn's suggestions and it still does the same..have you considered doing a system restore back to an earlier date before this started????
It does appear to be a parts failure though...

No new software/hardware, we already sis a system restore before coming on here. I tried the memory modules, HDD, didnt seem to be loose and i ran the computer with only 1 memory module at a time and neither made a difference.

 

One thing that did happen when this started was my brother left it on his bed and it shut down due to an overheat. Ever since that it hasn't worked...

Well, because of that overheating..bets are that it did damage to the GPU circuitry and its now on its way out...
