M17x R3 Linux

Ok so my rig is an alienware M17x R3 with gtx 580m and i7 2720QM. I have tried intalling ubuntu 11.10, kubuntu 11.10 and fedora 16 with no luck. What linux can work with my laptop or how do i get kubuntu working?

What exactly are the issues that you are having?

Post links to drivers that you are currently trying to use etc ... would help us out in giving input

i cant install the OS;s using cd;s or  a usb. after the first screen i cant run the cd in live mode or install it. After after shoeing some black letters it just freezes up. I was reading about a way of installing it using comands but how does that work?

Sounded like some hardware issue to me. Does it work fine under Windows?

maybe a hardware incompatability, because other M17x r3 owners cant either.

I read that there is success with Linux installation on this model, albeit limited like missing sound or problem with video when in certain apps. Why don't you try Linux in VM first until all drivers have been sorted out?
