The Sad Truth about Non-Alieners....

This is the sad truth about most non-alieners...

While the forums were down, I was looking around to discuss Aw stuff elsewhere. When I did happen upon a thread, the starter simply asked if AW why everyone thought they were overpriced, because they seemed to offer quite the bang for the buck. I read through 5 pages of posts saying that AW was a cheap company and that you could make a better PC for $500. Now to me, that's utter bs, so I responded that that wasen't the case. I said that while you could build a machine that was comparable to an AW that it would cost nearly the same as the AW and that no one could home build a laptop that was comparable. I told them that AW rocked and they obviously haden't given AW a chance...

5 minutes later, I had been roasted alive... over 20 people responded telling me that I was full of crap... even the mods on the forum told me not to argue over the matter because AW was truely an overpriced consumer whore...

That, my friends, is the sad truth about most non-alieners...

Daegras... look around on these forums. There are some "non-alieners" that respect AW. I for one respect them, and plan on purchasing a notebook from them once they start selling one with the P-M and 9700. I am currently looking at their new tivo like thing.

Making a statement that all non-alieners are like that is how you said... "utter bs", because it doesnt apply to everyone.

There are many AW bashers out there Daegras...

Most of these people have never seen an Alienware let alone owned one. And the self builder crowd always boasts about their rigs, but if you ever challenge them to a bench-off and get together, they're full of excuses.

The ones that say they can build a better system for half price are lying. I've spent many hours breaking down their estimates and showing that component for component you'll be lucky to save more than 10% building your own, and you have to do the work, load the software and hope you don't have any issues, and also hope the components you buy work together well. And you don't get a warranty or support or the upgrade plan either.

Most of them also try to include stuff they already have like fans and components to make the price lower, and they leave out prices for shipping, software, cases and fans and power supplies and such. It's really ridiculous.

If they could do as they say, they'd open a business and put Alienware out of business.

Don't sweat it, it's really not worth arguing with those guys. They aren't truthful, and it's tantamount to banging your head against a brick wall.

You are correct Endernet, and I thank you for being respectful and apologize for my mistake. *flys off to add a most in that post*

Seriously Hammer. It drives me nuts, but since my order, I just can't stand to let anyone down Alienware.

I know Daegras, I've been fighting the good fight for years.

Alienware is #1, and they'll always try to knock the king off his perch.

Don't let them influence you enjoying your system, they don't know what they're missing.

I know what you mean. I feel like a crusader trying to defent AW out in this ugly ugly world of AW bashers. I was almost turned off by all the "bad" things before I got mine, but now i would not trade it for anything else except for maybe a GTO. even then it would be a hard desicion.

So true. Thanks Hammer, it's nice to know that I'm not the only one experiencing this. And I know that when I go lan with the non-believers they will see AW's true power.

As far as desktops go, you can build a pc just as good as an AW for much cheaper...

laptops are a whole different story.... are u sur etheyw ere talking about desktops?

They were saying in general that AW was overpriced. Then they said that they could make a desktop for $500 that would be better (one even claimed he could do a laptop).

While I agree alienware charges a smidge over what you could be paying on baseline systems I also agree that the money is justified for there tight community and amazing external and internal designs for there systems. You want overpriced? VOODOO wow that sums up 100 pages of flame outside this forum

This is my thought exactly, you can build a equal (equal specs, a components) desktop for 1/2-2/3, but I wouldn't even think of building a laptop.

Lolz! So true Dell, so true. And that means a lot Lurking. I know with your move to Sager that you may be a bit more biased on their side, but it's good to see that even with your move you still see AW as a good builder. That's very awesome.

$500 is a flat out lie...

i can see no extra costs on shipping ... free shipping is very common these days... and cases you cang et cheap as well...

but 500? hell a top line video card, even OEM will run you 150 alone... a p4 is gonna run you 200+and 1 GB of RAM another 150, thats 500 right there with no motherboard, power supply, hard drives or optical drives...

i built my system it ran me like 900-1100$

p4 3.2/1gb ram/250 mb 7200rpm hdd/8X dvd burner/9600xt

Maybe they meant for 500 less? Nobody can build a AW like desktop for 500.

Depends on what your looking for

Alienware does build good machines but they are not always the best for every case.

Desktop wise they are the best price for performance if your going to buy pre-built. Despite what any AW owner says you can build a true CUSTOM system with same specs for 300-500 less than alienware. True no alienware support but most who build their own dont need some goober guessing at what is wrong with your computer. Warranty? If you build your own every single part will have a warranty so I dont see how its any different than alienwares warranty. Performance? A alienware will perform no better than a exact custom built machine? Same parts perform similar no matter what. Every user out there customizes their computer with modding software so it is impossible to say AW is better. Alienware has performance tuning but it is no better than what you can do yourself at home. True you have to go through the trouble of building it but it is all what you prefer. Some enjoy creating things and dont think of it as trouble but a hobby. That is who I am, a hobbiest who enjoys building unique one of a kind computers while saving a little money but spending some extra time building it.

Laptop wise the area 51m is great and not really overpriced.
The sentia is a true rip off. It is severely overpriced and has inferior components compared to other pentium m based units. This is where alienware needs to concentrate is technology on. I seriously considered buying a sentia because I needed a pentium m for battery power. Too many other computer brands offer pentium m with true graphics solutions and not integrated graphics pluse longer battery life and in a lighter package all while being at a more competitive price. For the extremely high price of the sentia I think it is absurd of alienware to only offer integrated graphics.

Go ahead alienware lovers I know you cant wait to bash everything I just posted.

I usually try to check my bias at the door. It really just came down to time and money. I got it a month earlier and saved a little money. I'm extremely pleased with my lappy, but then again, I went from a 450mhz gateway to a fully loaded 3.4ghz. I'm only sad I waited this long too upgrade. It also appears I got a Cherry of a system. No dead pixels, no flaws except for the screen hinge being kinda tight. After my experience with the dell XPS, it made it all the better.

Oh yes, for 300-500 less than 3000 i agree. But they said for under $500 you could make an AW replica... that's what I find to be crap. And while you could do it, I would rather pay the extra and get the excellent service, and the good looks. I don't want it to seem like I'm bashing you (cause i'm truly not) I just don't agree wholly with what you say.
I've seen the same thing. I checked out some other forums too and people were bashing them left and right. But those are usually the people who claim that their 700 dollar desktop is the best thing on the face of the earth even though it has like a 2.8 p4 and a geforce4 graphics card. Thats not bad, but its nothing spectacular. I'm getting an area-51m in about a week or two and I have no regrets there. They are sweet notebooks and very fast too.

Just a thought: The people that bash with stupid claims remind me of the Mac freaks that you find online. Even though they are clearly wrong, they will continue to argue. I laugh at all my friends at school when they try to claim that macs are better than a windows based pc in every way.
