i got this laptop a few months ago and ever since the mic has been getting horrible feedback. i can sit in a silent room and press the test button and it will just rattle the speakers and when using vent or other team speak programs as in video games they cant understand me because of the noise the speakers are picking up but the room is silent. any one have an idea what this is? i cant change any settings in it because the day i got this laptop i clicked the idt sound settings and it said startup file not found so i cant change any of the settings in there. anyone else have this problem?

I would try removing the audio device in devices manager and see if you can re-install with the appropriate driver first

Try playing with "recording" settings - turning off mic boost also and see if it helps

How about selecting the lowest sample rate and bit depth available, such as 2 channel, 16 bit, 48000 Hz or something like that?

Are you using an external mic, or using the default built-in?

You can try a system restore, but I would contact Dell for a replacement or repair.
