So I thought I'd post this success up on the net for Googlers to find.
I recently had my laptop freeze, graphics went all screwy (lines all over the screen that shouldn't of been there. It then BSODed and when it restarted another BSOD saying something about faulty hardware. The screen was full of lines and weird extra mirrored images.
Looked up on the internet similar problems and found one crazy solution, bake the graphics card in the oven. The theory is, when these cards go bad it is usually a cracked solder joint from all the heating up and cooling down cycles. By warming the whole card up in the oven it softens the solder and expands it. Once it comes back in contact with the other side of the broken connection it resolders itself!
I baked it at 195 Celsius for 10 minutes. And what do you know, it works again!
