Gateway ml3109 cpu best possible upgrade

Thread Starter

I have done my homework and read about ever thread on the ml3109. But most of these posts are old and I would like to know that is the absolute best upgrade is. I know that the Intel t7200 2.0ghz will work with this motherboard. But will the t7400 work? Or what is the best possible cpu to upgrade? The t7200 on ebay is about $40, is there a better value cpu? Not worried about overheating, as I have cleaned all dust from the cpu fan. Help, please!

Should be good with the T7200 - a big boost in performance already there. Use good thermal paste.

Yes, I know this one will work, but will the t7400 work? Or what is the hands down best cpu for this?

How much $$ are we talking here to have a difference of .16GHz? smile.gif The T7200 has been proven to work on upgrades for this model, your call.

It is a matter of options, ebay is full of deals when things are flexible. And a perverse part of me wants to push things as far as they can go. I have been using this laptop for over 4 years already.

Is there any good reason why a faster cpu would not work?

Personally I see no reason why it should not work, other than the speed difference. Have fun tinkering smile.gif

So technically any 478 pin will work? Like the Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile T9400 2.53GHz 1066MHz? Not saying I would, I just want to know what my limitations are?

Thanks for all your help!

I would venture to say that nothing above a T7600 (not sure) would work ..i.e no I would not put my money on the T9400 - but please, do prove me wrong winknudge.gif

Upgrade your Bios to the latest version always is best.

Stick with a processor of the same FSB. You can get a large

increase, and still stay with the same Bus Speed.

Your original idea for the 2.0 Core2Duo is what I run in mine.

That with 4Gb memory (careful on this upgrade....the board is particular

which memory works). Also I used a 320Gb 7200rpm HD.

Between the 3 upgrades, it's proven to be very stable and quick.

Why update the bios? I thought this was a unnecessary risk if all things are running correctly.

Careful with what type of ram? Did you find a way to run 4gb with vista 32 bit? I have 2gb now, and thought the 4gb only worked if you are running Vista 64 bit.

Also, what do think about upgrading to a ssd hdd? I can get one for $67, or do you feel the 7200rpm is where it's at?
