Is the cpu replaceable on my Pavilion g4-1016dx laptop?

Thread Starter

just wondering if my g4 series hp has a replaceable cpu in it? or if its a soldered in one? i just ordered 8gb ram for it, and id like to upgrade to a n660 if possible from my turion II p560. id like to get better gaming performance out of this.

also, looking on ebay it looks like all the g4's and possibly g6's motherboards are the same and could possibly swap into my case? thanks!

I haven't seen any soldered CPU notebook models since 2004. And sure, if the boards fit withing the casing, tinker away

in most cases what holds gamers back is a very good GPU (graphic processor unit) (vid chip) and those are not readily upgradeable

would you guys recommend the phenom n660 (dual), n850 (triple), or n870 (triple)? they all are about the same prices, the n870 being slightly cheaper.

Not so sure of you can go higher than the N640 (2.9GHz) from your current P560 (2.5GHz)

Read this on the P560

then

read this on the N660

Compare the first "AMD Phenom II Dual-Core Mobile family, Socket S1 (S1g4)" from both tables. You might come up with different calculations winknudge.gif

yeah i was thinking about going with a shuttle, and a Intel i3-2100 with a Nvidia card (since amd and ati are the same now)

I would not go with anything below an i5 if you are into gaming

well reading the reviews it seems that a dual core intel is the way to go, i also read that dual cores are better for gaming than quad (or higher) cores. so is that no true or something?

All these reviews were mostly done before the arrival of good Quad core CPU and latest AMD CPUs winknudge.gif

haha well not to go off track here, but what cpu would you recommend. i want to play BF3 and call of duty on high settings, otherwise than that it would be used for the internet/email. also im on a budget of about 500 for the whole build

500 for a gaming notebook to perform at high settings? I would go for a second hand from someone who loves to have the latest and coolest laugh4.gif
