hello, i have a friend that is having a problem with her dell. this is what she says is happening: "when i turn it on it goes to the black screen saying it wasnt shut down correctly last time and the options to start normally, safe mode, safe mode with networking, ect. no matter which option i chose (I've done all of them) it just keeps going thru that, then will act like its starting up (goes to the dell loading screen) and then it's back on the black screen i mentioned above."

is this a common dell problem? or something software related? thanks!!

Sounded like a hard drive issue. You can try starting up with an OS installation disk and perform a system repair and see

The bottom of the case (COA key) should be able to let you know which OS version the comp comes with.
