Using notebook on battery until it hibernates??

Hey guys. I have an HP Dv6 notebook. My battery got ruined after using it for about 10 months so I got a new one. When I was using the old battery, I kept it plugged in all the time. Guess thats what killed it... Well I'm using the new one now and I just wanted to know whats the best way to charge it. I normally Charge it when the notebook runs outta juice and hibernates. Is this good for the battery? Using it until it hits 7% and hibernates?

Or should I just charge it when it goes down to about 30%?

Thanks :)

Is this some kind of urban legend??? As I can't seem to find the correct answer.

I had a laptop for almost 3 years (the GPU started failing) and I always had it plugged in and barely used it on battery power, I was still able to take 1+ hours of battery life after those 3 years.

As far as I know, its not good to keep it plugged in all the time. You should use the battery every now and then

I do keep my battery in all the time, occasionally I would perform a battery calibration. Haven't seen / read any scientific observation as why the battery should be kept in or out - personal preference in my case

As far as I know Nickel Cadmium batteries were the ones who got hurt if you didn't follow certain use patterns.

I have a ThinkPad that has software that allows control over how the battery is charged. Based on what I've read on forums, people think it's best to only charge the battery once it drops down to 20%, and then stop charging it when it reaches 80%. That will help your battery's life to last the longest. Always keeping it 100% charged when it's plugged in will shorten the battery's life.
