Hi there

i wonder if anyone could help me to solve a problem

i fitted a new motherboard for my sis on her hp dv2000

all went well apart from i did not have any audio  But have volume now

and the power switch cover quickplay blue led lights and keys do not work

so i can,t mute my volume  the icon in the task bar shows a red cross but still does not work

i have ordered a new ribbon for the power switch cover incase that is the reason

i have done all the normal things like installed the audio bus driver then the conexant dirver with great difficulty

i have installed quick play and quick launch  with no avail

does any one have any idea please or have anyone else had the same problem ???

many thanks

maggie

Does your devices manager recognize the audio device (yellow exclamation present)? Your OS?

Hi there

Thank you for your imput and reply

my os is xp and yes device manager reconizes the conexant audio driver

before i installed the audio driver i installed the muu audio bus

then when i installed the conexant audio driver it seemed to replace the audio bus

so now device manager does not show the audio bus but does show the audio working correctly

i had service pack 3 installled but now have uninstalled it back to pack 2 and installed the bus driver for

service pack 2  also tried the patch for the audio bus for service pack 2

many thanks

You did everything correct with the software and OS, XP SP3 is a pain with certain audio. I can only think that the speakers assembly is probable failing

Hi again

thanks for your interest

the sound is coming out perfectly clear

i just cant mute the sound

is it because the quickplay blue led light keys are not working which has the volume mute and up/down key

many thanks

Can you use the FN keys to control the volume instead of the quick play?

I wonder if the quickplay software needs to be reinstalled and tweaked. Search our forum for "HP QuickPlay" - we have many threads and posts regarding the issues and resolution for this particular software. I would give that a try first before digging further into hardware issue (my bad above)

Hi

thanks for the info

i have tried reinstalling the HP quickplay and anything else to do with  the quickplay

i even used the F11 and did a factory restore hoping that would sort it but no such luck

i will have another look around the forum

many thanks for your input

HP itself recognizes that its QuickPlay ding was quite buggy. Kinda hit and miss if the systems have to be re-installed for any reasons - bummer I would say. I read that it is not just a simple un-install and re-install of the software. Check also if the replacement board has the late BIOS update (newer than F.37 according to some HP documentation. Review also the properties of the quick launch buttons under Human Interface Devices and/or Keyboards.

Hopefully that would save the day and not going for the quicklaunch button cable

Hi again

because of what you said earlier on your post about the FN plus another key i went to have a look

and believe it or not  the FN + arrow  up  or left moves volume up  and  FN + arrow down and left lowers it even though there is no sign on the keys  ( Thankyou  )

i am at the min burn the recovery disks so i cannot turn down and restart to see if windows remembers that it is  turned down i will post and let you know

when i have a chance to do it

many thanks

maggie

Hi

i have allready burned a set of recovery disks months ago but the system does not like the dvd-r disks

why does the laptop allow you to burn a dual layer dvd  recovery disk

then when you want to use it tells you that it is not compatible with the pc

so i did another set using 2 x dvd-r  it allowed me to do it

but when i went to test them once again not compatible

how annoying

anyway back to the sound

i used the FN + arrow down no  sound from anything  i thought  bingo

BUT  when starting up windows again  the souund belted out just as loud as ever

thats me stumped again

anyway i thought because i have updated the bios maybe i should do a complete factory reboot again on the fresh bios  so that is what i am doing now

many thanks

maggie

Go into Audio Properties, Sounds (Tab) and choose "no sound" as Sound Scheme - this will prevent the ding and dong of Windows startup and shutting down, making the system faster as well wink.gif

Very good that you took time to test the recovery disks (I am impressed), not many doing that and getting burned when needed laugh4.gif You just have to play with different media type, or may be eventually just replace the optical drive to something that is better and greater compatibility

Hi there

many thanks for your help and input I'm sure there is a lot of people out there that would not know where to start with some of these problems

I have already choose no sound  and then saved it calling it no sound  its just that this is not the default setting and i am a  bit of a perfectionist and like things to work correctly

but really i should be proud of myself for reviving a dead laptop

once again many thanks

maggie
