Hello. I am new to the community. I'll be 100% honest with everyone, I know next to nothing of computers. I know my fair share and can get around the internet just fine, but the ins and outs, programs, video cards, specs, they all mean nothing to me. I am however in the market for something new. Right now I am using a HP G60-235DX. It's pretty old now and has seen its days. So on Friday (Dec. 16, 2011) I am ordering a new computer from BestBuy.com.
So what are the choices you ask?
Well we have either the HP Envy nv 17-2290nr (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+Envy+Laptop+/+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i7+Processor+/+17.3%26%2334%3B+Display+/+8GB+Memory+-+Carbon+Relic/3568964.p?skuId=3568964&id=1218417160459
Or the Toshiba Qosmio (Red Horizon) X7753DV80 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Toshiba+-+Qosmio+Laptop+/+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i7+Processor+/+17.3%26%2334%3B+Display+/+8GB+Memory+-+Red+Horizon/3529302.p?skuId=3529302&id=1218410279645
Now you're asking yourselves (don't deny it), why would he get such a nice computer if he doesn't program, game, or do much of anything other then search the web, watch (and upload) some YouTube videos, convert music to iTunes, and watch some movies? Well, even though this computer will not be used to its FULL potential... I worked for it! And I mean I worked. 50 hours a week, and I've been saving $415 a week for the past 5 weeks now! I finally just have enough (as of today) to place the order. Now the HP I have now I love, but her time is obviously coming. Plus I got her with Financial Aid $ from the University of Phoenix, so I never really earned her. This computer I'm EARNING! It'll be the first major thing I've worked for this hard and have earned in my life probably (since I don't have a car or anything). So bottom line is... Even though you all may feel I don't "deserve" a computer this nice, I still need your help. I LOVE HP, and told myself that I would stay with them. Here's the problem though - The HP is Sold Out Online! The plan is to have it here and in my hands for Christmas. I called Best Buy and they don't even see any in transit. So there's NO telling when it'll be back. :( Do I wait it out, or go with the Toshiba (which honestly was my 2nd choice anyway)? I know a lot of people (my wife included) that swear upon Toshiba.
A little about me and my daily computer needs, then I'll try and stop the madness of a long thread. I hang out on Facebook a lot, which is very lame and boring so I plan to go to Google+ someday. I watch A LOT of YouTube stuff. Also I upload YouTube videos http://www.youtube.com/user/tymhollerup sometimes. I use Excel for keeping track of my X-Men (and other comic book collection) progress as it's my goal to get all the X-Men books from the 1963 series (1-544). I worship Breasts as God (don't ask. Just go watch my feature video if you want to see what I mean) and have a good size collection (10,000ish) of photos on my computer. This is where a good video card comes in play maybe? I ABSOLUTLY HATE Porn (only mention this because I'm sure you're all thinking it), so I don't care about webcams, or things of that nature. Breasts are NOT pornographic, but Artistic in my eyes. Please don't think that I use these pictures for unintended purposes. I have a wife for that. LOL. So I also obviously spend time on Suicide Girls website saving photos too. Therefore a high quality resolution is always a plus as some of my collection is from Tumblr and is poor quality and grainy. Actually that brings up a question... will a better quality screen fix any graininess and little flaws in low res pics? God, I'm sounding like a perv aren't I? Anyway, I'm not much into gaming. I did buy World of Warcraft, but I have no idea if I'll like it. I was a Professional Poker player for a little over 6 months until it became illegal to play online in America (hence why I have a "real" job now) and still enjoy playing PLO and NLHE on Ultimate Bet and PokerStars. So keep that in mind. I love music (and convert a lot of YouTube videos to Music files. Dubstep mainly) and have 13,782 tracks in my iTunes at this point. That takes a total of 105.43 GB of memory. My computer now is 320 GB. The HP is 1.5 TB an the Toshiba is 1.25 TB. Both should be plenty large for me, but I have a 3 TB Seagate External HD just to be safe.
So finally for the conclusion (I'm SOOOO sorry if you actually read all this. I just want the best help I can get here and want you the reader to know AS MUCH about me as possible so you can help me decide) I want the BEST OF THE BEST pretty much. Out of these two computers, specs here... http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=cat13504&type=page&pageIdentity=searchDriven&useProductString=true&productString=1218417160459*1218410279645&unProductString=1218384145481*1218428707520*1218434721603*1218436875515*1218456974881*1218456858852*1218434729070*1218424572204*1218337435166*1218456815997*1218456807028*1218429892061*1218463769844*1218402208099*1218434720845*1218492373825*1218456812408*1218431598234*1218355301273*1218429957624*1218456900963*1218379812958*1218456996075*1218351653445*1218320495580*1218348983850*1218428686673*1218431612177*1218428689263*1218434732199*1218419329216*1218419332360*1218396596413*1218456834139*1218293491291*1218431569230*1218456769561*1218432147837*1218431599313*1218353392693*1218434736232*1218342186463*1218374427096*1218272180243*1218370890076*1218342639697*1218428657757*1218210981170*1218417159594&catId=pcmcat247400050000 which one is the best OVERALL machine? Do any of you have either one of these or know anyone that does? I'm seriously torn here because I wanted to get this for myself this Christmas, and I had my heart set on the HP. And maybe this (it being sold out) is a sign. I don't know, but if the HP weren't sold out I probably wouldn't be on this forum right now. So do I hope the HP comes back by the 20th, or go with my 2nd choice?
So overall (statistically & quality) which of the two products are the Best of the Best? Both these are "Gaming" type computers I think, but remember that won't be the main purpose. So any kind of 3-D Glasses (I think they come with the Qosmio) are not a factor in this for me. And again... Thank you for taking the time to read all this. :/
