HP 4730s - Problem with applying High performance graphics

Hello people, im new on this amazing forum and i hope i write my problem on the right forum section, IF NOT

LET THE MODERATOR TRANSFER MY THEARD IN THE RIGHT FORUM PART FOR MY PROBLEM:

Thanks

So i bought my first notebook HP 4730s and i got a problem with switching graphics, better to say unaccepting high performance graphics in Catalyst Control Center.

The separated graphic is AMD RADEON HD 6490M

I use Widnows 7 Professional 64 bit SP1, and i downloaded all the drivers from HP website

Lets start,

I will use High Performance for playing games, naturaly, so after clicking with right mouse button i select "Configure Switchable Graphics"

After that i go to Catalyst Control Center --> Browse and select Pro Evolution Soccer. exe as perfomed with High performance (Radeon) as i play it

step1

step 2

After selecting Apply, the program goes back to No Assigned. And so on after 10 times

-------------------------------------------------

Sure Pro evoulution soccer Settings recognize my system as:

I tryed to play with this, but the game is toooo slow, i hoped that Radeon starts to work only after starting a game, but its not that case.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The graphic card is recognized in Device Manager, after instaling graphic drivers downloaded from HP support

page, and its found correctly functioning in Device Manager

after clikcing on disable button from INTEL MOBILE, i cannot choose not mor from 2 resolutions, and the display is to bad in quality. But still is the RADEON recognized as correctly functioning.

So i must go to Enable again.

I thought that HP drivers might be out of date, so i tryed to download ATI instant downloading and installing drivers, after that i got this message

So i downloades by myself the CORRECT drivers for my grafic card, and installed them without any problem, but the problem is still existing.

Whats the problem with my notebook? please help me i dont have any experiance with this kind of graphics

The laptop is pluged in, and the game does not use OPEN GL.

I tryes also in BIOS enable/disabel switchable graphics, but then the Radeon was renamed in Device Manager to "Standard VGA adapter". so i must enable it again.

Thanks for answers

Yes. I bought a new device, and made a clean install of Win 7

I would put the comp back to original state, or try playing with re-installing HP so called "bloatware"

Hello all!

At first let me congratulate to admins and all members of this really great forum! I found many answers to my questions here lately! Thank You and keep on the great work!

Secondly...I joined because I wanted to do something good "in return". I hope I will be able to help someone with advices/answers/opinions...etc..

Now...to answer you Bero... ;-) (btw..i hope you didnt do clean install yet, because its not necessary, and even if you do, you wont solve this "problem" with it)

I have the same laptop, which i bought 3 days ago. And so far must say that I am very happy with it. It was kinda hard (read : time and brain consuming, lol) to configure the "HP Bloatware" as user qhn called it...hahahaha (actually I kinda agree with him...since majority of average users dont need all their "fancy" stuff, which is also hard to configure the right way), but now all is working as it supposed to.

I had the same "problem" with applying the discrete graphics to software and games which require more gpu power than integrated graphics can deliver. Actually what I did was (since I dont care that much about longer battery life), to let laptop use HD6490 all the time (unless for openGL, where I believe it still uses INTEL's graphics).

Now what I did/and you should too, was...

1. check in device manager under Display adapters that you have only MOBILE INTEL HD GRAPHICS listed (you should have it as default)

2. open Catalyst Control Center (btw...for some reason its not possible to update HD6490's drivers from AMD (ATI) website...I tried that too at first....and also few days before that for friends Toshiba with HD5650 but without luck....probably the only way is to update from laptop manufacturers website directly....so from HP or TOSHIBA or.....)

3. in CCC you go to POWER and SWITCHABLE GRAPHICS METHOD...(i read that you already messed with it)...there...the top option is enabled as default...you should select the bottom one....press APPLY...and CHANGE at window that pops up. After that screen will flicker few times and thats it. From there on you may click on SWITCHABLE GRAPHICS and check/select desired gr.card - either high performance gpu - hd6490 in this case, or power saving gpu - Intel. You can also access switchable graphics interface from desktop by right clicking on mouse and selecting "configure switchable graphics"

4. and if you check now (after enabling HD6490) in device manager > Display adapters...you will have them both listed there.

You will also notice that more options will be shown in CCC when HD6490 is selected...so you may tune them as well...but no real need for that...at least I was happy with default settings. Now if you change back to power saving gpu (Intel)...in device manager only intel gpu is shown under display properties.

I guess it would be also possible to setup the desired energy saving plan (similar to what you tried without luck)....to have those less demanding software running on Intel, and other like games and similar on radeon....but (at least for me) its not worth the time to list all applications and games there and select plan for each of them. Better to run it on full speed all the time...or low if you are somewhere where there is no power outlet nearby and you need longer operating time.

Hope it helps....and if there is anything else....just ask.

Greetings,

Andy.
