Asus X101 Netbook touchpad issues

My girlfriend bought an X101. It has all the usual stuff, N570, 320gb HDD, 1GB ram...

We've been having all sorts of intermittent touchpad issues. First off it worked fine. Then turn it on today and after a few minutes it was acting weird. Seemed to work for a couple of seconds then wouldn't for a couple. Cycling like that. I screwed around finding drivers etc. Tried the latest one on Asus website for the X101 which is the Sentelic TouchPad Driver V9.1.3.4. I then found a 64bit version that was version V9.1.7.7. I tried it even though the Netbook is 32bit. It started working but required to hold the finger on the pad for half a second before it would activate with no settings to disable that feature. This afternoon it just started working normally. And 2 hours later it's doing something different all over again! Now it is moving slow then fast then slow then fast and every so often flicking across the screen randomly!

Any ideas?!! Not liking these non-Synaptics branded touchpads! bored.gif

Sorry for the very late reply. I've only just had a chance to play with it until it screwed up.

Once th touchpad started jumping, skipping and pausing I restarted normally. Upon restart it was still jumping around so I restarted into Safe Mode. It was still jumping and pausing in Safe Mode. I restarted into normal mode and went to take a video of it, but the camera was flat so I charged the camera and X101 (as it was on battery at about 70% when things started playing up). Once I got back to it with the camera charged it was working fine again! Very annoying. I'm flattening the battery again to trail if it is that which is effecting it.

Interesting observation here.

I got it down to about 50% battery and it was still working fine.

I had a thought it could be to do with running off the battery as I had a car inverter (12v DC to AC convertor) that would cause the touchpad to go crazy on another laptop due to a false earth in the circuitry of the inverter.

But the intermittent part of the problem doesn't seem to add up. Makes me think more of a software problem...

Did this problem start after you installed updates or anything? Or the machine is still very much stock

It started about 2 hours into owning it. It did do an "Asus update" to itself before we noticed it. Probably was turned on and off 3 times and then just out of the blue it happened. Next day it was fine. Just keeps coming up, and it happens during the use of it, not at start up but if you restart it, it is still screwy! I tried three different touchpad driver versions on it. Still the same. It is almost like there is another ghost finger pressing on the touchpad randomly...?

Can you restore it to original state and use the machine over a few days 1st?

I might try that next week while she is at work.

Cool . We'll research further for the issue, which I haven't any reference to this netbook model

Hello

I have the same Netbook and i have two of them, one bought in November 2011 and one bought in January 2012. Both are x101h.

The first one has the Sentelic Touchpad and the second one has the Synaptics Touchpad.

The Problems where the same as yours on the second Netbook with Synaptics inside but Sentelic Drivers.

There are no Drivers on Asus Website i downloaded them on the Synaptics Website and they work.

No more jumping Cursor or anything like that.

May you do a Backup, uninstall the Sentelic and install the Synaptics Drivers.

Asus changed the Touchpad without any notice. Dont know why, but Synaptics is way better.

Sorry for my English i am German and too old to learn. :-)

Would you happen to have the links to the mentioned drivers?

Hello

Just search on Asus Site for x101 not for x101h.

Or go here: http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=20&s=1&m=Eee+PC+X101&os=&hashedid=LkGzjtRUZRmyVi2g

But dont forget the Backup

How do you tell for sure it is a Synaptics instead of Sentelic hardware?

Belarc Advisor? free download in the Software Section

I disassembled both netbooks since I installed a Runcore SSD instead of HDD.
