Just for kick, what happens if you set the 2nd monitor as the main display, forgetting about using 2 displays?

I've tried that switching the second monitor to the main monitor,  still will not connect

What is the specs of your HDMI cable? 1.2, 1.3 ....?

I've tried 1.2 and 1.3 both the same

The lack of HDMI port support specification is sad from notebook manufacturers. From what you have done so far, your tv and external monitor cannot see the "expected" signal coming out from the notebook port, thus cannot communicate back to it correctly.

In your case I would try with different HDMI cables 1.3c or 1.4 per example, and contact ASUS for the specifics regarding devices supporting the current HDMI port. Though they may argue that the HDMI port is meant for video playback only (hair splitting)

Inside Windows Display Properties (not CCC), under the monitor tab, is there a way to force the refresh rate?

I am thinking more of the line trying different refresh rate then using it to "force" the signal to the hdmi port
