How to install Windows XP to T4220?

Hi all.

Sounds like a silly question, but let me explain...

I bought a refurbished T4220 from an Ebay business seller, without any CD's...so no manufacturer driver CD's and no Windows CD.

I already have my Windows CD from my last laptop (HP NC4400) and also still have the key for it.  The drivers for the T4220 I can freely download online.

Well...I thought I'd have 3 very simple methods of installing my XP Pro SP3 to my new T4220 (in BIOS I disabled the network boot preference in each case):

1)  in BIOS select CD drive as number 1 boot preference.  Insert Windows CD in drive and power up the computer.  The CD has the Autostart and SETUP files and is instantly recognised by my NC4400's CD drive, as it brings up the XP install screen.

2) in BIOS select external USB drive as number 1 boot preference, where I copied all the XP Setup data from the CD.

3) either insert my old laptop's hard drive in the T4220 which already has XP on, or insert the empty T4220 hard drive into my old laptop and install the XP on that...then putting that new hard drive into the T4220.

Well...none of these options work.  For options 1) & 2) I get error "Operating System not found"...just a black DOS screen with white text.  For option 3) for some reason the hard drives aren't recognised when outside of their normal homes.  I either get "System Disk error" or just a white "_" symbol in front of the black DOS screen.

I'm in the middle of downloading all the T4220 drivers from here:

http://driverscollection.com/?H=T4220&By=Fujitsu&SS=Windows%20XP%20Tablet%20PC"]http://driverscollection.com/?H=T4220&By=Fujitsu&SS=Windows%20XP%20Tablet%20PC

but it's a pain in the bum as there's timed download limits (and no option for a premium account), meaning it's gonna take about 2 or 3 days to download all 23 drivers.  The Fujitsu site doesn't even offer a download page for the T4220.

Still...those drivers don't seem relevant to my problem.

Can anyone offer any clues as to why I can't seem to install my XP to my T4220?

Thanks in advance.

Hi mate.

Yes, it does.  It's correctly named.  I even did a diagnostics on the T4220 HD when I put it in my NC4400, it passed all the tests.

Try using another installation disk, like LiveCD per example, and see if it boots up correctly and accessing the drive (formatting)

I've never heard of a LiveCD...how is that different from an OEM Windows CD?

Nothing really, just an idea if a Linux Installation CD (LiveCD - free, download and burn it to a CD) can jump start your system better

Thanks for the tip.  I solved the problem by downloading an ISO of Ubuntu and burning to CD.  This my T4220 recognised, then from Ubuntu I was able to install my OEM Windows CD.
