Sony Vaio VGN-FW56GF Overheating

Hi

hope someone can help.

Recently my laptop has been overheating while playing games, such as Sims 3.  I have a chill matt that is always running.  Depending on the outside temp will depend how long i can play the game for before the screen goes black, the sounds still plays for a bit and then stops, i have to end up manually restarting and then it restarts as normal, but keeps overheating while gaming.

I have downloaded GPU-Z and it shows the temps during everyday use in a normal range, between 40 - 45 degrees.  When playing games the temps increases dramatically above 80 degrees and sometime up to 100 degrees, then the screen will go black.

I have had no luck trying to adjust the fan speed as it says it is running at 30%.

This may be all to vague but i really not sure what to do.  I have contact Sony and they suggested i put it in to be checked at a service centre, but the closest service centre is pretty far away from me, so if anyone can suggest a solution to my problem that would be great.  Feel free to ask as many questions as you want.

Thanks

Still under warranty? Send it in. If not try cleaning out the vent, vacuuming would do

hey

yes under warranty

just cleaned out the vent, seemed to cool the temp down and bit but now the black screen seems to be occurring at 65 degrees, so yes there is something wrong there

Yep - let them (seller/manufacturer) deal with it. A bit inconvenient for you to go without the comp for some (short) time, but the only right thing to do. Hope they can turn it around quick for you

I don't think your laptop is still under warranty, but if it still is you should call Sony, they will send a box to your house with a prepaid return label, all for free.
