ASUS X59SL problems with new HDD

Thread Starter

Hi!

I bought a new HDD but as I tried to install Windows 7 Ultimate I got a blue screen after the second restart (during the installation). After the restart I tried to start windows in normal mode and it checked the file system ( no errors ) then restart again and blue screen right after the 'Starting Windows' screen. Next time I tried to start it in safe mode but "Windows can't finish the installation in safe mode". So here I am now.
I installed Win 7 Ultimate to my old HDD without problems so the disc is fine.
I installed Ubuntu 11.04 to the new one without problems.
By the way I just simply replaced the HDD... should I do something with it? In BIOS or sg?

Please help me because I'm out of ideas and sorry for my bad English :"(

Just for kick, can you partition the new drive into 2 partitions of no more than 300GB on one, then give it a shot?

My first try was

80 (ntfs, windows), 100 (ntfs, logical), 270(ntfs, logical), 35 (ext4), 3 (swap)

Partitioned with my old system (old HDD inside Win 7 Ultimate, new USB).

Second

80 (ntfs, windows), around 420 free

Partitioned with Win 7 installer

Third

80 (ntfs, winodws), 30 (ext4, ubuntu 11.04 ), 3(swap), around 380 free

Partitioned with Ubuntu 11.04 installer

The further attempts were quite the same.

How large is the old drive? Specs? Could be the current BIOS can't support SATA-3 ...

Ubuntu works fine as always, but I couldn't install Windows..

I tried to install Win 7 Ultimate SP1 with another DVD and:

After the first reboot blue screen..

After the second reboot (normal mode) it could finish the installation then blue screen

After the third it couldn't boot: "BOOTMGR Image is corrupt. The system cannot boot"

Another one of these in the past few days. Get yourself another smaller than 500GB drive is my recommendation

Or try to install Windows over the Ubuntu partition

cheers ...
