I recently purchased a laptop for my daughter for college with computrace on the bios according to HP. I want this in case her laptop gets stolen

Prior to handing it over to her I want to make sure its working correctly.

Is there an easy way to check running services or process to make sure its running?

The Bios shows nothing which is normal since its hidden in the bios

HP and Absolute says it should be fine but I havnt trusted customer service anywhere for a few years and always prefer to confirm myself

Its running windows 7 64bit ultimate

Some places are saying to look for

rpcnet.exe
rpcnetp.exe

but these sources are old so dont know if still valid

Thanks for any help

I would not be bothered with it. Just make sure you back up personal data often enough. They are the one that should tell you if the trace is on, if lost then you get compensated.

Furthermore, I doubt that you'd be able to see if Lojack is running on your system - it you do, then others would as well. You should be able to get to the support side, signing on with your account and see the current status though.

Well since I havnt reported it stolen the website says everything is OK. From the info I have the service connects once a day if not flagged and every 15min if flagged.

I just want to make sure its actually running without having to false flag it

Its not the data im worried about loosing as its backed up via ghost. More the hardware I want to track if needed

I understand the concern of "just to be sure" smile.gif

But tracers like Lojack or the like will run stealth on any machines. It would defeat the purpose if anyone can see where it runs winknudge.gif
