I have a very Slow DVD R/W. Help please?

I have a HP NC6320 Laptop that has a very slow Disc R/W. It is a Model GSA-T10N Pt#433472-6c1. It Burns DVD very slow also, trying to read DVD's fast is not possible (2X speed Max.).

 

Can anyone help me on what my problem might be. My NC6320 uses Xp Professional as a O.S.

You can check to see if there is an updated driver or firmware for your DVD drive from the manufacturer.

edit: okay, I actually just checked that, and LG (the manufacturer) lists the specifications of the drive here, but does not have a support page for it and won't do any exchanges or such for products over a year old.

Do you get the same slowdown with every program you use, or is it just with specific ones?
