VPCEE2M1E Upgrade Advice

Thread Starter

Hi Everyone

I am after some advice on the upgrade path for a Sony Vaio VPCEE2M1E.

I am planning to max out the RAM to 8GB, install a 1TB hard drive (as the lower profile ones are now available) and also would like some advice on replacing the stock Athlon X2 (Which performs pretty poorly in my opinion) with a Phenom II. Is the P920 compatible with the motherboard and BIOS or can anyone shed any light on the supported CPU's as I cannot find any information online.

Cheers

James

Update:

Ordered a P920.....picked up a bargain at £65 on eBay second hand tested so hopefully its ok!

Ordered 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair DDR3 1066 paid a little extra for faster delivery but still £37 is reasonable.

Ordered Arctic Cooling MX-2 for a few quid as i've had good experience with this in Laptops.

Should hopefull be ordering Samsung 1TB 9.5mm 2.5" HDD tomorrow.

Fingers crossed it all turns up ok and the laptop is happy with it all...i'll keep you posted!

Well heres the pictures of the upgrade as requested. The stock 500GB hard drive failed this week and the company were out of stock on the 1TB drives and everyone else was too expensive so I had to replace it with another 500GB. Got Windows 7 x64 installed and i must say its a dramatic improvement! It's absolutely rapid and opens Photoshop and Dreamweaver in a few seconds and runs alot cooler than the stock Athlon II! The fan is barely audiable and has not even run at full belt at all and the air out of the side of the unit only gets slighly warm.

Just a shame it doesn't have a dedicated video card like my HP DV6's Radeon 5470 tongue.gif

Sony is not known for offering dedicated gpu on their machines. But now and then they can surprise you with some models winknudge.gif
