Acer AS5560-SB448 6650M '''6740G2'' Graphic weirdness.......

Okay here it goes

I got this laptop

5560g-sb448 , I freshly installed windows ,

I went directly to amd downloaded the ''detect and install driver for my amd''

Then i have a catalyst configuration thing , and i enable cross fire .....

The graphics are plain ugly.... fifa 12 looks like a wii game....

Crysis 1 runs on high and looks like a ps2 game.....

the only game i had running was skyrim one time of it three you can see detailed texture on the arm & face.....

texture appear and disapear , flashes around ,  they look choppy as hell ....  , a xbox 360 can emulate 4x times what im seing here  for less than 200$ .....

we are talking about a 400$ difference here

did i do the right thing installing that?

did i forget to install something vital for the pc? Direct x or i dunno...

should i reformat?

Maybe one of the worst laptops i have ever owned so far  I really hope it's a configuration issue.....or out of the window it goes

May be restoring back to orginal state instead? Or using the graphic driver direct from Acer?

Why use Acer's amd driver?

they are well outdated.....

im now trying crysis it runs so slow it's like if i have a integrated 1meg  card

Textures are flickering it's pure non sens .......

Sure that manufacturers graphic drivers are always out of date. But they are tweaked to support the whole configuration. Notebooks graphic cards are not the same as desktops where we can freely update drivers without hitting the wall 99% of the time. Notebook manufacturers are responsible to keep (tweak) the drivers up to date.

Your best bet is to search tweaked drivers from Omega or laptop2video group that hopefully will have a better chance to work than pure AMD drivers

THanks i didn't know about omega & laptop2video

but

I Reformated the acer... went to acers website , and installed everything on their website.....

Im running Crysis on high and textures are messed up so bad its not even funny

i will probably try one of their drivers  .... but i don't see why amd's official drivers for notebook wouldn't work??

Small print from AMD
"AMD Mobility Product Family Compatibility

Catalyst™ Mobility is a notebook reference graphics driver with limited support for system vendor specific features. When used with Windows Vista or Windows 7, users may have unwanted experiences.

The Installation Verification Software will prevent driver download on certain notebook products. This is to protect against the installing of drivers that may disable features or functionality provided by the system manufacturer. If unwanted experiences occur while using Catalyst™ Mobility, it is recommended to revert back to the driver provided by your system vendor for your specific platform. Please contact your system vendor for the most recent drivers for your notebook. "

That is why I recommend restoring your system back to original state, forgetting about a clean install with all drivers from Acer site. One can always disable certain unwanted processes and services from the original.

Right on that i get you

so i installed the one on Acer and removed the AMD website one

But I have a crysis installed like i said  and my iphone is killing the ?%$@#@#%?%# out of my pc.....

My wii seems More beautiful & smoother , hell even a ps2 would outplay this system

I really think of selling it or  returning it for a 15% restocking fee

Try getting the latest game patch. Create a restore point. Donwload the latest AMD driver, extract it to a folder and using manual update for just the driver. This might work. Or like mentioned above, visit laptop2video for a tweaked driver.

Quite simple really.

. extract the driver package to a folder
. in devices manager, go to the device in question
. choose driver update
. a dialog should open up and give you the choice of "install from a list or specific location"
. point to the folder and you are good

cheers ...
